The mission of RMCHCS is to serve God by making a profound and lasting difference in the health and quality of life for all people in the community.
RMCHCS > Our Services > Family Medicine Services
One clinic that knows your whole family, from a child’s first vaccines to managing blood pressure at seventy.
RMCHCS College Clinic is a family medicine clinic providing primary care for every age. The same team follows your health over years, so nothing has to be explained from scratch at each visit, and a change is noticed because someone has a baseline to compare it against.
You do not need a referral to become a patient, and you do not need to be unwell to register. Registering while you are healthy is far easier than trying to find a doctor and get an appointment on the same day.

All Ages
Family medicine is primary care for every age rather than one age group. A family medicine specialist, also called a family medicine physician, family physician or general practitioner, treats the whole household, so one clinic can see a toddler, a parent and a grandparent.
Services
These are the six services provided by family medicine at College Clinic, our outpatient clinic in Gallup. Family medical care services are open to patients of every age, and because the clinic is part of RMCHCS, laboratory, imaging and specialty services sit inside the same organization.
Every age

One clinic for the whole household instead of driving to three different offices. Infants, children, adults and older adults, kept in a single record.
Call the clinic ➜Prevention

Catch a problem while it is still small and inexpensive to treat. Annual physicals and routine screening find a rising blood pressure before it becomes a diagnosis.
What is included ➜Long-term care

Stay steady rather than lurching from one crisis to the next. Regular review, medication adjustment and lab monitoring for long-term conditions.
How it works ➜Everyday problems

Be seen for ordinary things without a trip to the emergency room, by someone who already knows what medicines you take.
See examples ➜Prevention

Stay current, and keep school and work paperwork straightforward. Childhood and adult immunizations, plus age-appropriate screening.
What is due for you ➜Support

Health education and counseling as part of regular care, with behavioral health based in the same building when more support helps.

Preventive care is the part of primary care that pays for itself. Most of what shortens life develops quietly for years before it causes any symptom, and it is far cheaper and easier to treat when found early.
An annual physical exam is the anchor. Your provider records your weight and blood pressure, reviews your medicines, asks how you are sleeping, eating, drinking and coping, and orders laboratory tests appropriate to your age and family history. Nothing dramatic happens at most of these visits, which is the point. The value is in the trend line, not any single reading.
Screening is then matched to you rather than applied as a checklist. What you need depends on age, sex, family history and existing conditions, so the schedule for a healthy twenty-five-year-old looks nothing like the schedule for a fifty-five-year-old whose father had heart disease.
Ongoing Care
A long-term condition is managed across years of small adjustments, not in one appointment. Regular reviews, laboratory testing, and medication adjusted when your numbers say so, with referral inside RMCHCS when a specialist is needed.
Everyday Care
Plenty of problems are too troubling to ignore but nowhere near an emergency. Seeing your own provider beats seeing a stranger, because they already know your history and your medicines.
Clinic closed, or cannot wait for an appointment? RMCHCS Rapid Care takes walk-in patients Monday to Friday until 7:00 PM, and the emergency room is open 24 hours a day.
Immunizations
What you need is specific to you. Rather than guess from a general schedule, ask the clinic to check your record and tell you what is actually outstanding.
Childhood immunizations, plus the documentation schools and childcare require. If your child’s records are spread across previous clinics, bring whatever you have and the clinic can work out what is missing.
Adult immunizations and boosters vary by age, occupation and health conditions. If you work in healthcare or education, or need tuberculosis clearance for a job, mention it when you book.
Blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar checks are the routine ones. Beyond those, screening depends on age, sex and family history, so tell your provider about conditions that run in your family even if you feel well.
Same Clinic
College Clinic is a family medicine outpatient clinic that also houses several other departments in one building. If your family needs something outside primary care, it is often down the corridor rather than across town.
Rehabilitation, physical therapy and wellness services are provided separately at the RMCHCS Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, so patients looking for a family medicine and rehab center find both inside one health system.

Family medicine is the branch of primary care that treats patients of every age, from infants to older adults. A family medicine provider handles prevention, long-term conditions and everyday illness, and coordinates specialist care when it is needed.
A family medicine specialist is a doctor trained in family medicine, the branch of primary care that covers patients of all ages. The same role is sometimes called a family medicine physician, a family physician, a family practice doctor or a general practitioner. They provide preventive care, manage long-term conditions, treat everyday illness and refer you to specialists when needed.
Family medicine doctors provide preventive care such as annual physicals and immunizations, manage long-term conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes, treat minor injuries and illnesses, and coordinate referrals to specialists. They are your regular first point of contact for almost any health concern.
Family medicine is a type of primary care rather than something separate. Primary care is the general term for your regular first-contact doctor, and family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics are all forms of it.
Internal medicine treats adults only. Family medicine treats patients of all ages, including children, which is why one provider can care for several generations of the same household at one clinic. Both are available at RMCHCS College Clinic.
