RMCHCS provides behavioral health and mental health care in Gallup, New Mexico. Psychiatric treatment, counseling, medication management and substance use treatment at College Clinic, for ages 6 and up.
You can get a mental health assessment, psychiatric treatment, medication evaluation and management, counseling and therapy, and substance use treatment at one behavioral health clinic on Red Rock Drive. That means help with depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood changes, medication questions, and alcohol or drug use, without driving to Albuquerque.
Patients come to us from across McKinley County and from the Navajo Nation, including Window Rock and Fort Defiance in Arizona. Your care also stays connected to the doctor you already see, because College Clinic provides family medicine, pediatrics, and addiction medicine in the same building.

We treat mental health and substance use conditions in one place, for patients aged 6 and up. A board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and an addiction medicine physician work in the same building, so a condition that involves both can be assessed and treated together instead of being split between two clinics.
These are the conditions we see most often:
Chris Will is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or PMHNP. That means he is an advanced practice nurse who can evaluate your mental health, prescribe and adjust psychiatric medicine, and provide therapy.
He treats children, teens, and adults. His work covers mental health and dual diagnosis evaluations, crisis intervention and stabilization, and substance use treatment including medication assisted treatment. He has practiced in outpatient clinics, on hospital wards, and in emergency settings, and he teaches and mentors PMHNP students.

There are four, and they differ by how urgent things are and where you go. Outpatient care is for planned visits at College Clinic. A crisis line is for when you need someone right now but it is not a medical emergency. The emergency room is for immediate danger. Inpatient care means a hospital bed.

College Clinic is on Red Rock Drive in Gallup. Patients travel to us from across Gallup, McKinley County and the Navajo Nation, including communities in eastern Arizona.

Behavioral health covers your mental health and the habits that affect it, including how you think, feel, sleep, cope with stress, and use alcohol or drugs. Behavioral health services can involve counseling, a medication evaluation, substance use treatment, or all three.
Yes. Patients travel to College Clinic from across McKinley County and the Navajo Nation, including Church Rock, Yah-Ta-Hey, Tohatchi, Thoreau, Crownpoint, Zuni Pueblo, Ramah, and from Window Rock and Fort Defiance in Arizona.
Many patients come to us directly, without a referral. Some insurance plans do ask for one before they cover a behavioral health visit, so it is worth checking. Call 505-863-1820 and we will check what your plan requires before you book.
Yes. College Clinic accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and most commercial insurance plans. We also offer assistance for uninsured patients. Ask us when you call, or read our financial assistance page.
We see patients aged 6 and up, which covers children, teenagers, and adults. A parent or guardian should come with a child or teenager to the first visit. Call 505-863-1820 to arrange an appointment for your child.
A psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, or PMHNP, is an advanced practice nurse trained in mental health care. A PMHNP can evaluate your mental health, diagnose conditions, prescribe and adjust psychiatric medicine, and provide therapy. Chris Will, APRN, PMHNP is board certified in this role.
Behavioral health counseling, or psychotherapy, is time with a licensed counselor to talk things through and build coping skills, usually in longer sessions on a regular schedule. Medication management is a psychiatric provider prescribing and adjusting your medicine in shorter visits. Many people use both.
Yes. When a mental health condition and substance use happen together, that is called a co-occurring or dual diagnosis. We assess both in one visit and treat them together, including medication-assisted treatment for alcohol and opioid use.
Yes. Your behavioral health visit is confidential and protected by federal privacy law. We share information with your other RMCHCS providers only so that your care stays connected. Records are not shared outside that without your consent, except where the law requires it.
RMCHCS admits patients to its Acute Care Unit and Medical/Surgical Unit for medical and surgical care. If you need a psychiatric inpatient bed, the emergency room team will stabilize you first and arrange an appropriate transfer to a facility that has one.

RMCHCS behavioral health is at College Clinic, 1900 Red Rock Drive, on the east side of Gallup. The clinic is on the second floor. It sits on the same road as Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital, which is at 1901 Red Rock Drive. College Clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Outside those hours, call or text 988, or use the hospital emergency entrance, which never closes.
